The Best Sloppy Joes Recipe – A Little Fancier, A Lot More Flavor

A Little of Everything

I know it is bold to say this is the best Sloppy Joes recipe but…this recipe is bold.

The first time I ever ate a Sloppy Joe was three weeks ago when I tested a recipe for Sloppy Joes. It true. This meal has never been that appealing to me and my mom never made them growing up.

My idea of Sloppy Joes is something from a can slopped onto bread which then turns into a glorious mess as it enters the mouth.

But a few people asked me on Instagram to develop a healthier Sloppy Joes recipe. Listen, I am here for your requests and if I think I can make something delicious, I will try it.

Enter the elevated, fancy but not fussy Sloppy Joe!

This is the best Sloppy Joes recipe! Insanely flavorful with real ingredients. Perfect for a 30 minute weeknight meal your whole family will love!

The Best Sloppy Joes Recipe

The meat has the ultimate savory flavor thanks to tomato sauce, Dijon Mustard and Worcestershire. I add some sweetness with Coconut sugar to bring it all together.

Serving it on my sweet potato buns was a no-brainer! But the mess was real so I decided to serve it over my creamy, savory mashed sweet potatoes. It was the ultimate tastebud experience!

I like to think of it as a deconstructed Sloppy Joe. I add avocado and pickled red onions because we are the appropriate amount of fancy around here. This is the recipe I use for pickled red onions, I love it because it does not use white sugar but it still tastes just like a pickled red onion should!

Here is the recipe for my savory mashed sweet potatoes! I have been making this as a side dish for over 5 years. It’s still my favorite!

I happily ate all of this over the course of a few days. I never got bored of it because there are so many different ways you can serve it.

Really, you are the boss of this meal. Serve how you want! On top of lettuce? Over rice? On a Hawaiian Sweet Roll (the answer is yes).

Did you grow up eating Sloppy Joes? Promise me you’ll try this recipe. Nobody was more shocked than me by how delicious this meal is!
