You all are very ready for Spring! My burgers are the top searched recipe on my blog this week. So are my sweet potato buns. We are vibing and I am here for it! So this week, I am not going to disappoint! We are doing paleo sliders.
I’ve been wanting to make something else with my sweet and spicy sauce from my wings because, as some of you have let me know, you don’t like wings. Not enough meat. Too messy. I can get behind that.
So let’s put that sauce all over some boneless chicken, throw it in the Instant Pot (IP) or slow cooker, and make sliders!
Paleo Sliders with Sweet Potato Buns
This sauce comes together so quickly! Just Frank’s Hot Sauce, honey and butter (or ghee). Let it simmer on the stove until all the ingredients are combined and then throw everything in the Instant Pot. Do you know how long it takes to cook this in the IP? TWELVE MINUTES. 12. Ten + two. Why am I doing math? Anyway, the point is, not a long time!
Just remove the chicken to a bowl and shred with two forks. I like to add more sauce over the chicken as I do this!
Now, let’s talk about sweet potato buns. It is just the sweet potato. No other ingredients. Literally that is it. They cook up in a total of 5 minutes.
Grab a thinner sweet potato for slider-sized buns or a thicker sweet potato for full bun size. Cut them into rounds!
I just cook these in some oil on the stove for about 3 minutes on each side.
Do you know what this means? Your slider will taste like you stuffed it with sweet potato fries. This means you are living your best life!
For people who are not into sweet potato buns, you do you. I recommend a Hawaiian Sweet Roll. For the full story on how I ended up with a sweet roll during this photo shoot, you can find the story on my Instagram!
My favorite part? You can load these up with so many different things. Pickles, tomatoes, jalapeños, hot sauce, avocados, chopped red onion. If you’re throwing a party, set out all the ingredients and let people build their own!
My favorite thing to add is my herb dressing.
This will not disappoint!
And yes, you can pick these up and eat them with your hands! Jeremy and I both scarfed down three each the other night. No utensils. I mean we had napkins, we aren’t monsters. But no utensils ; )
Enjoy, friends!
PrintSweet & Spicy Paleo Sliders with Sweet Potato Buns
- Prep Time: 10
- Cook Time: 12
- Total Time: 22 minutes
Ingredients
Sweet & Spicy Chicken
- 2 lbs boneless chicken breasts or thighs
- 1/2 cup Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
- 1/2 cup honey
- 8 TBS butter or ghee
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
Sweet Potato Buns:
- 2 large sweet potatoes
- 1/2 TBS coconut oil
To serve:
- Herb dressing
- Avocados
- Tomatoes
- Chopped red onion
- Jalapeños
- Pickles
Instructions
For the Instant Pot (IP):
- Put the chicken into the instant pot.
- In a small saucepan add the hot sauce, honey, butter (or ghee) and the garlic. Let simmer on the stove on medium-high, while stirring to bring all the ingredients together. About 5 minutes.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken.
- Secure lid on the IP. Move the valve to sealing. Set the IP on Manual at high pressure for 12 minutes.
Once finished, allow to come down from pressure manually for about 10 minutes. Move the valve to venting. Remove lid. Chicken is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the middle of the thickest part reads 165 degrees. - Take the chicken out and transfer to a bowl. Shred the chicken with two forks. Pour 1/4 cup of sauce (or more to your taste) from the IP over the chicken and combine.
For the Crockpot:
- Add chicken to the crockpot.
- In a small saucepan add the hot sauce, honey, butter (or ghee) and the garlic. Let simmer on the stove on medium-high, while stirring to bring all the ingredients together. About 5 minutes.
- Pour sauce over the chicken.
- Cook on high for four hours or on low for six hours. Remove chicken from the crockpot to a bowl and shred the chicken with two forks. Pour some of the sauce from the crockpot on top of the chicken. Mix to combine.
Sweet Potato Buns:
- Peel the sweet potatos.
- Cut the potato into 1/4-1/2 inch thick rounds. (The middle of the sweet potato is best for being used as “buns” as that is where they are widest.)
- Heat a skillet on medium heat. Add 1/2 TBS coconut oil.
- Once the oil melts add the sweet potato rounds. These cook fast! About 3-4 minutes on the first side and only 2-3 on the second.
- Top one “bun” with the sweet and spicy chicken. Add any other ingredients like pickles, avocado, tomatoes. Top with additional “bun.”
Notes
Depending on the size of your sweet potato, you can get about 4-6 sliders out of each sweet potato (this includes the top and bottom bun).
