Homemade Starbucks Doubleshot Recipe

  • Author: Bri McKoy

Ingredients

You will need:

  • Ice
  • Ground espresso beans or pods
  • Honey simple syrup (or classic simple syrup) – recipe below
  • Heavy cream

Tools:

  • A way to make espresso (we have a nespresso and a Moka Express)
  • A shaker
  • A strainer (if your shaker does not have a lid with a strainer)
  • A glass to pour all the espresso shots into
  • A cup filled with ice

Instructions

Honey Simple Syrup:

  1. Add 1/2 cup honey and 1/2 water to a small sauce pot. Simmer until the honey and water are fully incorporated. About 3-5 minutes.
  2. Pour honey simple syrup into a jar with a lid. Refrigerate (this will keep for 3 weeks in the refrigerator).

For the Nespresso or Espresso Machine:

  1. In nespresso, place glass under pour spout. Make 2-3 shots of espresso using 2-3 pods. Click on the button that pours out the Short Cup to make the espresso. This will give you 5-7 oz.  (I like using the Firenze Arpeggio pods or the Roma pods. Both are a dark roast.)
  2. Add 1 TBS honey simple syrup into the glass with the hot espresso. Pour this into the shaker filled with ice.
  3. Secure lid and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds. Some of the ice will melt, helping tame down the espresso and shaking will create the froth we all love to see in our cup!
  4. Using a strainer, pour the espresso and simple syrup mixture into a cup filled with ice.
  5. Add 1/4 cup heavy cream. Enjoy!

Moka Express Method:

  1. Unscrew the Moka Express. Remove the strainer. Fill the bottom with water to the fill line (depending on what size Moka Express you have will determine your fill line). Place the strainer over the water. Fill with espresso. Do not pack the espresso down as it can clog the strainer.
  2. Screw the top of the Moka Express on. Place on stovetop over medium heat. Do not leave! You will want to wait until the water comes to a boil. You will hear a gurgling sound. This can take 5-8 minutes. Once you hear the sound, remove the Moka Express from the stove. If you open the lid (be careful not to touch the metal) you will see your espresso!
  3. In a shaker filled with ice, add 1 TBS honey simple syrup. Pour espresso from Moka Express into the shaker.
  4. Secure lid and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds. Some of the ice will melt, helping tame down the espresso and shaking will create the froth we all love to see in our cup!
  5. Using a strainer, pour the espresso and simple syrup mixture into a cup filled with ice. Add 1/4 cup heavy cream. Enjoy!

Notes

If you like your a little more sweet, add more honey simple syrup until desired taste. Same goes with the heavy cream. Make it as creamy as you would like.
